The 2025 Utah nursing license renewal requirements exist for good reason. Our nurses must keep up as best practices evolve, so they are empowered to provide the highest level of care for their patients.

However, we know you are facing burnout, staffing shortages and the high demands of a complex healthcare system. Nursing CE Central offers quick, effective courses that earn Utah nursing CEUs.

Utah does not require nurses to complete a test to earn CE. Nursing CE Central’s Utah Renewal Bundles do not require any test taking.

1. What are the continuing education requirements for the 2025 Utah nursing license renewal?

LPNs and RNs must meet Utah’s Continuing Competency requirements to renew their license. There are three options to meet this requirement, but most nurses choose to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education from an approved provider (such as Nursing CE Central).

LPNs and RNs also must complete at least one online suicide prevention training course, which qualifies for CE credit.

Nursing CE Central’s Utah Renewal Bundle includes LPN license renewal CE and RN license renewal CE.

APRNs must meet Utah’s Continuing Competency requirements to renew their license. There are two options available to meet this requirement, but most nurses choose to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education from an approved provider (such as Nursing CE Central) and 400 hours of practice.

If you have a license to prescribe controlled substances, at least four hours of continuing education must be about controlled substance prescribing. Three-and-a-half hours of approved controlled substance education and one-half hour from the Utah Division of Professional Licensing’s online controlled substance tutorial must be completed.

APRNs must also complete at least one of the following online suicide prevention trainings listed here.

Nursing CE Central’s Utah APRN Bundle includes APRN license renewal CE.

2. Is Nursing CE Central a Utah Board of Nursing-approved provider?

Yes! Courses from Nursing CE Central are approved and accepted by the Utah Board of Nursing.

3. What do I need to have ready when starting my renewal online with the Utah Board of Nursing?

Most nurses will only need fulfilled continuing education requirements and submitted documentation of them, along with a valid method of payment, to complete their renewal through the Utahid Online Portal.

The cost of renewal is $68 for LPNs and $78 for APRNs.

6. Do I need to submit my certificates of completion when I renew?

Yes. You’ll need to submit certificates when renewing your license.

7. Do I have to keep documentation proving I completed my 2025 continuing education requirements for renewal?

Yes. Nursing CE Central recommends you maintain these records for a minimum of three years in case you are selected for an audit.

8. How can I check that my renewal application is complete?

Utah nurses can check on the status of their license, including its new expiration date after submitting a renewal application, through the online portal.

If you do not renew by the expiration date, you will have to complete a reinstatement application. You cannot practice as a nurse until your license is active.

10. Can I still work if I miss my renewal deadline?

No. You are not legally allowed to work in Utah with a lapsed nursing license.

11. How much does a license reinstatement cost?

According to the Utah Board of Nursing, the cost for license reinstatement includes the renewal fee and an additional $20 if your license expired within 30 days or an additional $50 fee if it has been more than 30 days.

LPNs and RNs can use the paper applications listed below. There are no paper applications for APRNs, but all licenses can be renewed online on the nurse portal.
