1. What are the 2025 CE requirements to renew a nursing license?

Georgia has several options for nurses to meet its continuing education competency requirements for license renewal.

Most RNs choose to complete 30 contact hours of CE and most LPNs choose to complete 20 hours of CE. APRNs must meet the same requirements as RNs to renew and maintain certification in their area of specialty.

5. When is the nurse license renewal deadline?

LPNs must renew their license by March 30, 2025, and RNs must renew by Jan. 31, 2025. Georgia nurses must renew on even or odd numbered years, depending on the year their licenses were first issued.

6. What if I miss the deadline?

The Georgia Board of Nursing will administratively revoke the license of any nurse who fails to renew their license on time. Once that happens, nurses will be required to submit an application for reinstatement. This process comes with additional fees and documentation requirements.

7. Can I work with a lapsed license?

No, you cannot practice nursing with a lapsed license.

8. How can I renew my nurse license?

You can renew your license online through the Georgia Professional Licensing online portal, or by contacting the Board at 478.207.2440 to request a paper application.

9. What do I need to start my nursing license renewal online?

Most nurses only need to submit documentation of their fulfilled CE requirements. A valid payment method is needed complete the renewal through the online portal.
