The 2025 Colorado nursing license renewal requirements exist for good reason. Our nurses must keep up as best practices evolve, so they are empowered to provide the highest level of care for their patients.

However, we know you are facing burnout, staffing shortages and the high demands of a complex healthcare system. Nursing CE Central offers quick, effective courses that earn Colorado nursing CEUs.

Colorado has a 60-day grace period after the license expiration date to renew your license. Failure to renew during this time will result in your license being inactive and you cannot practice nursing in the state of Colorado.

1. What are the continuing education requirements for the 2025 Colorado nursing license renewal?

The Colorado Board of Nursing does not require LPNs or RNs to complete continuing education activities at this time.

APRNs with prescriptive authority must complete two contact hours in Substance Use Prevention with every nursing license renewal. Nursing CE Central provides an APRN Pharmacology Bundle.

2. When is the 2025 Colorado nursing license renewal deadline?

RN and APRN licenses expire on Sept. 30 of odd or even-numbered years, depending on when the license was issued.

LPN licenses expire on Aug. 31 of even-numbered years.

3. How can I check that my renewal application is complete?

You can check the status of your renewal through the Colorado Division of Professions and Occupations Online Services Portal.

4. What happens if I don’t renew my license before its current expiration date?

Colorado has a 60-day grace period after the license expiration date to renew your license. Failure to renew during this time will result in your license being inactive and you cannot practice nursing in the state of Colorado. You will then have to apply online for reinstatement.

Reinstatement applications require fingerprinting and background check submission prior to beginning the application. There are no education requirements if your license has been inactive for less than five years.
