The 2025 New Jersey nursing license renewal requirements exist for good reason. Our nurses must keep up as best practices evolve, so they are empowered to provide the highest level of care for their patients.Â
However, we know you are facing burnout, staffing shortages and the high demands of a complex healthcare system. Nursing CE Central offers quick, effective courses that earn New Jersey nursing CEUs.Â
The last day to renew a New Jersey nursing license is May 31, 2025, and the renewal window open date is March 31, 2025.
1. What are the 2025 CE requirements for licensure renewal?
LPNs and RNs must complete 30 contact hours of continuing education. Of the 30 contact hours, one must be on prescription opioid drugs and one must be on implicit and explicit bias if nurse provides care to pregnant persons.
Nursing CE Central’s New Jersey Renewal Bundle includes LPN license renewal CE and RN license renewal CE.
APRNs must complete 30 contact hours of CE, including:
- One hour on prescription opioid drugs
- One hour on implicit and explicit bias if you provide care to pregnant persons
- Two hours on end-of-life care
Nursing CE Central’s New Jersey APRN Bundle includes APRN license renewal CE.
APRNs with prescriptive authority must complete six contact hours related to controlled substances.
2. Which nurses are required to obtain CE to renew their license?
RNs and LPNs must fulfill continuing education course requirements for the New Jersey nursing license renewal period.
3. Is a test required to complete the CE requirements for the 2025 New Jersey nursing license renewal?
No, the New Jersey Board of Nursing doesn’t require a test to complete CE requirements.
4. Do I need to submit my CE through CE Broker?
No. However, when renewing a nursing license, you must attest to completing CE to the board.
5. Do I need to keep documentation proving I completed my CE?
Yes, you should retain documentation proving the completion of CE for at least five years. The board may need this for an audit, disciplinary action, or other requests. You can easily access CE certificates completed with Nursing CE Central by logging onto the website.
6. When is the 2025 New Jersey license renewal deadline?
LPNs and RNs must renew their licenses by May 31, 2025. The renewal window open date is March 31, 2025.
7. What happens if I don’t renew my license before the deadline?
Your license will expire unless it’s renewed before the deadline. However, you may renew it within 30 days of its expiration. To do this, you must submit a renewal application, pay a renewal fee ($120 for active, $60 for inactive), a late fee ($50), and an alternative to discipline surcharge ($5) to the New Jersey Board of Nursing. If you don’t renew your license within 30 days of its expiration, the board will administratively suspend you.
8. How do I renew my license in New Jersey?
You must fulfill the required nursing CE courses, attest to their completion to the board, and complete a renewal application online through the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. A valid payment method will be needed for any nursing license renewal fees.
9. How can I verify the status of my license?
You can check the status of your license through the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs license verification system.
